About the Author: My thoughts on Artemis Fowl, and Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl, a story of a young man in a very precarious situation, who uses his intellect and resources to solve the issues that are opposing him. Written by Eoin Colfer, a man of fifty one, this story delves into magic and a hint of mystery, a story that isn't often seen. But one crucial question I have is how did Colfer's life affect his book, and one of the only ways to answer that is to learn a bit more about him. So, born on may fourteenth, nineteen sixty five, in the country of Ireland, there's a lot of things that are unknown about him, or at least extremely hard to find, but there are a few key points that are known about his life. For instance before he became a full time writer he was a school teacher, meaning that he worked with children for a substantial amount of time which probably had an effect on his writing. Also he repeatedly states in interviews that his childhood was a massive inspiration for his writing of the Artemis Fowl books and for his other novels, and he has said that his father especially was a major inspiration for him to write stories. Also something that interests me is who would Colfer see himself as if he was one of the Artemis Fowl characters, it's something that has intrigued me for a long time and takes time and thought to truly get an answer. Now, my conclusion, in my own opinion not by anything Colfer has stated himself would be Butler, because Butler is a big protector and a help to Artemis, but not completely cold and maniacal as Artemis. That is just my own opinion though, not based off of anything Eoin has said himself. Now as shown through the many interview and responses Colfer has made to his readers and other people, his chilhood was a major inspiration for his novels, allowing for the great series that is Artemis Fowl.
